PEORIA, Ill. -- Ameren Illinois is shutting off power to downtown Peoria this weekend.

The outage is scheduled for 4:30 to 8:30 Sunday morning to fix a utility line in danger of falling.

Word quickly spread of the planned outage before Ameren was able to notify all customers who would be affected. And that left many business owners concerned.

"They usually tell us, and say, 'hey, we've gotta do this and this.' And if it's about the streets, or whatnot, they usually tell us and we get along great," said Pat Sullivan, owner of Kelleher's Irish Pub, "But this was going to be a surprise we heard."

Sullivan also says he's still unsure if his Water Street business will have power come Sunday morning.

An Ameren spokeswoman said the company does not make planned outages public. They believes customers -- especially businesses -- would not want the general public to be aware of a planned outage due to quote "security reasons."
