PEORIA, Ill. -- Former Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood said he is on board with a plan to bring more Passenger rail to Central Illinois.
As we reported Tuesday, The Illinois House unanimously approved the possible creation of an east-west passenger rail corridor.
The route would run between the Quad Cities and Danville with stops in Peoria, Bloomington, and Champaign.
Legislators are calling it the "education corridor", connecting Bradley University, ISU and the University of Illinois. LaHood said that's a great idea.
"Students come from the suburbs all the way to southern Illinois. A lot of them ride the train. It's comfortable, it's affordable. And that would provide the same kind of service to those of our students here in Peoria," said Ray LaHood, Former Secretary of Transportation.
The proposal now goes to the state senate for discussion.
