PEORIA, Ill. -- Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis and other city officials are being sued by the nation's largest civil rights group.

The American Civil Liberties Union has followed through on plans to sue city officials.

The lawsuit says the pursuit of the man behind a parody Twitter account that mocked the Mayor was unconstitutional.

The ACLU says city officials embarked on a plan to shut down the account and punish its creator, Jon Daniel, in violation of Daniel's constitutional rights.

Police raided Daniel's house, arresting his roommate on unrelated drug charges.

Also named in the lawsuit are Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard and City Manager Patrick Urich.

The ALCU held a press conference on the matter Thursday morning.
