LEXINGTON, Ill. – The McLean County coroner says a body found in a pond in rural Lexington Tuesday night is that of 83-year-old Darwin Punke.

According to Coroner Beth Kimmerling, authorities responded to an area just north of the Mackinaw River around 8 p.m. Tuesday. There they found Punke face down in a pond approximately a half mile from his home on the family property.

Kimmerling said the man reportedly left to go fishing around noontime and never returned.

Autopsy results show he died of drowning and show no signs of a medical event prior to his fall into the pond. There were no signs of foul play.
