PEORIA, Ill. -- So what can a dollar buy you these days? Some people might think not much.

But Saturday at area Southside Mission Marts, customers were walking away with a bag of goods for only $1.

It was the agency's first ever "Dollar Day Sale".

Clothing, shoes, and school supplies were available for the $1 price tag.

The goods were donated at drop-off zones from local businesses, churches, and the South Side Mission Marts themselves.

Sterling Store manager Mandi Chester said shes thankful the Southside Mission is able to help people in need.

"With the economy as it is today, we are a great place to come," said Chester. "And with a dollar for a bag, you really can't beat that. Knowing that there are people out there that are hurting or knowing that there are people out there that are needy and what better way for us to be able to help them than to supply them with their needs."

Several stores, including those on Knoxville in Peoria, East Peoria, and Morton participated in Saturday's first ever "Dollar Day Sale."
