PEORIA Ill -- Boys and Girls Clubs in the Heart of Illinois got some much needed help Saturday thanks to the 7th annual Comcast Cares Day.
More than 100 volunteers from Comcast and surrounding neighborhoods helped clean up the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Peoria on Grinnell Street.
Volunteers pitched in by doing landscaping work there and at a nearby park.
Others helped by painting the building, along with assembling more than 100 hygiene packs for babies and kids of the Boys and Girls Clubs.
"I don't want to see donor dollars go into maintaining facilities, so I love it when groups like Comcast come and provide volunteer support service," said Boys and Girls Clubs CEO, Lesley Matuszak. "This way, truly every dollar in this community that is given to Boys and Girls Clubs can go to tutoring and mentoring programs."
"At the end of the day everyone feels good inside that they've put forth an effort to really help out in the communities that we work in," said Comcast Government Affairs Manager, Art Svymbersky. "We are excited about it. It's just a fun day for us."
Five other Comcast Cares projects also took place Saturday in Central Illinois.
That's out of 600 projects throughout the country.
