BARTONVILLE, Ill. -- The gym at Oak Grove West was filled with pink Friday night in honor of breast cancer awareness.

The 7th and 8th grade boys basketball players played in pink shoes and fans wore pinks shirts.

But, Friday isn't the only night the boys wore pink shoes.

They showed up to their first practice wearing the shoes after their coach's wife was diagnosed with breast cancer.

It was the boys' idea to have a pink out to support their coach and his wife.

Samantha West was diagnosed with breast cancer in May and says the support from the boys and the school shows they really are one big family.

"I just feel humble, to be around such great people, and appreciative of everybody. It just makes me very emotional," said breast cancer survivor Samantha West.

The coaches and basketball players hope they can make pink out a yearly event to raise awareness for breast cancer and early detection.
