PEORIA, Ill. -- People in central Illinois are always doing activities to raise money to help out others, including taking a dive.

Maui Jim held its 14th annual Dive for Cover Friday afternoon.

Several dozen people jumped in the company's pond which until Friday had been covered with ice.

The fundraiser is for the South Side Mission and the divers said it’s all worth it.

"You kinda go numb, just tingly now,” said Amanda Chamberlain. “Because we're helping tons of women and children have a safer life and have somewhere warm to stay and food to eat."

The event raised $60,000.

A couple of familiar faces also did the dive. You may recognize Mark Welp and Gretchen Writz from the HOI Daybreak Show.
