CHILLICOTHE, Ill. -- A car was pulled from the Illinois River at Chillicothe Monday night.
The vehicle matches the description of the one belonging to a missing Edwards, Illinois woman.
Peoria County Sheriff Mike McCoy said a crew using sonar searched the river beginning Monday morning.
Family and friends said that crew included two Southern Illinois University students and former Chillicothe police chief Steve Maurer.
Friend Abby Maurer said the former chief approached the two students, who were conducting research in the river, and asked them to use their gear to look for Peters.
Just before 6 p.m. they located the car upside down in the river and called police.
Julie Peters,22, went missing Saturday, September 28.
Peters had been at a wedding reception at the American Legion Hall in Chillicothe, and was last seen about 10:30 p.m.
The Peoria County Coroner met with family members of Peters at the scene, but has not confirmed the body found in the car is that of the Edwards, Illinois woman.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
