CHICAGO -- There are plans to introduce a same-sex marriage bill in the Illinois General Assembly Wednesday.
That possibility has drawn the fire of Chicago Cardinal Frances George.
Cardinal George issued a statement saying laws recognizing same sex marriage are a "legal fiction."
His letter is to be read in Parish Churches this weekend.
It comes as same-sex couples in Maryland started getting married today --the first day it was legal in that state.
The bill in Springfield is expected to be voted on in the Senate and the House this week and next.
The measure does have the support of the governor.
