Chillicothe Police Chief Steve Maurer has been arrested on a DUI charge and placed on paid administrative leave.

Maurer was stopped about 12-30 this morning in Rome by a Peoria County Deputy because the trailer he was pulling had no lights.

After being charged with DUI, Maurer posted bond and was released from the Peoria County jail.

It's the second arrest for Maurer since September of last year, when he was charged with domestic battery and criminal trespass in an incident involving his wife.

Those charges were later dropped by the State's Attorney's Office.

Chillicothe Mayor pro-tem Chris Boyer said city officials today appointed Sgt. Dan Adcock as acting Chief.

Boyer said the issue of the Chief's arrest would likely be discussed at a closed door council session on Monday evening.
