PEORIA, Ill. -- Some Chillicothe residents are taking matters into their own hands to prevent a new bar from coming to town and their backyards.

These residents live directly next to the old Pizza Hut on Fourth Street--the potential site for a new restaurant with a full-service bar. They have worked to placed their own bid on the property.

These residents are working with the 4th & Beech Homeowner's Association to secure ownership of the now-controversial location. As of now YUM Brands--who owns Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and similar businesses--owns the property.

"Because it doesn't seem that they're willing to compromise on any part of this operation, we were left no alternative but to put this offer in and try to make a good neighbor out of this property," said Mary Jo Schettler--a neighboring property owner.

Residents say that due to the potential noise, they are fighting for the well-being of their children and neighborhood. Residents say if they are successful, they plan on renting or selling the building as office space.

Residents backing the bid do not plan on using any money from the City of Chillicothe.
