CHILLICOTHE, Ill. -- Officers and friends put on the first ever whiffle ball tournament to raise money for suicide awareness and prevention.
After dispatch officer Matt Adams committed suicide this past May, fellow officers and friends started their own event to raise money for Whitney's Walk For Life suicide prevention program.
They decided to build two small sized baseball fields at Santa Fe Park to hold the first ever whiffle ball tournament.
Twelve teams signed up for the tournament this year.
"He would definitely have all smiles right now. He loved us, he loved whiffle ball, he loved the community, and he would definitely be very proud of us right now," said Richard Crady, Adams best friend.
They are looking to bring in $1,000 to $1,500 for the whiffle ball tournament.
Team Adams has already raised $5,000 from the Whitney's Walk event last weekend.
