PEORIA, Ill -- The state rested its case Friday day in the murder trial of Christopher Harris. Harris then took the stand in his own defense.

Harris was on the stand Friday for roughly three hours, where we heard his side of the story.

He admitted he lied many times, but maintained he did not kill the Gee family.

Harris said he went to the gee home that September night in 2009 to get marijuana from Rick Gee. He says at the time he was high, not totally drunk, but buzzed.

When he walked in to the house he says he found Rick and Ruth Gee unresponsive, lying in a lot of blood.

He said he was then attacked by Dylan Constant, who had a knife. Harris said there was a tire iron on the floor near Rick Gee.

He admits he used that to strike Dylan Constant at least 6 times in the head in self defense.

After, Harris said he took a laptop in the master bedroom and disposed of it, his shoes, the tire iron and burned his clothes.

He said he didn't want anyone to know he was there, because he didn't want to have to explain.

Again, he admits he struck Dylan with a tire iron in self defense. He said he lied and did stupid things, but maintains his innocence in the murders of Rick and Ruth Gee and their children.

The defense will continue the case Tuesday morning because of the Memorial Day holiday Monday.
