PEORIA, Ill -- Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (D) is learning first hand how sequestration and a looming government shut down is affecting Central Illinois.

Tuesday afternoon the Congresswoman toured Webster Head Start in Peoria.

She said Head Start has already cut back hours and services because of sequestration. Legislators are now talking about continuing sequestration for the 2014 budget.

On top of that, the government could shut down October 1st if Congress doesn't pass a budget.

Currently the House has passed a bill that ties keeping the government running to de-funding Obamacare.

"To basically hold the nation hostage by saying if you don't do this we're shutting the government down. This impacts real people, it impacts families, it impacts kids. This is just the wrong way to approach any kind of budgeting process," said Rep. Bustos.

Bustos heads back to the Capitol Wednesday.

She said they will continue budget negotiations this week.
