PEORIA, Ill. -- Congresswoman Cheri Bustos touted job creation during a visit to the River City on Wednesday.
Bustos visited A. Lucas and Sons as part of a week-long tour of manufacturing plants in the 17th District. The company is the oldest business in Peoria and the longest running steel fabrication plant in the U.S.
Bustos says companies like A. Lucas and Sons are creating a path to middle class status for employees throughout the state. That, she says, is the premise of a package of legislation being discussed in Washington.
"We have a package of legislation in the House. There's 40 bills all together under the heading "Make It In America" and the whole premise of it is how do we create jobs, how do we build off of our very strong foundation, that we already have right here in Illinois, of manufacturing and how do we keep the jobs here in America and make sure we don't send them overseas," said Bustos.
Bustos says the President has already signed into law 10 of the 40 pieces of legislation in the "Make it in America" package.
A. Lucas and Sons is the country's oldest steel fabrication company In recent years, they received a $350,000 stimulus grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act which was used to make clean energy improvements.
