IRVING, TX. -- Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman and Bloomington native Josh Brent is facing an intoxication manslaughter charge after a one-vehicle accident that killed teammate Jerry Brown.

Brent was a former Bloomington Central Catholic football star, and both Brent and Brown played for the University of Illinois.

Police in the Dallas suburb of Irving say the accident happened about 2:20 Saturday morning.

Authorities say that 24-year-old Brent was speeding when the vehicle hit a curb and flipped at least once.

Twenty-five-year-old Brown was found unresponsive at the scene and pronounced dead at a hospital.

A police spokesman says officers conducted a field sobriety test on Brent and arrested him.

The charge was upgraded to manslaughter after Brown was pronounced dead.

The Cowboys signed Brown to their practice squad earlier this year, but he had not been on the active roster.
