CENTRAL ILLINOIS -- It's march 31st, the deadline for individuals to begin the process of enrolling for health insurance under the affordable care act, and locally, it's been a busy day for signups.
Jeana Welch is one of the more than 30 people being assisted by navigators at the Tazewell County Health Department in Tremont.
Tazewell county, and other departments in the region, have reported an increase in the number of people coming into to enroll either by appointment or walk-in.
"I think most people are completing what they need to complete...getting some answers, having their questions answered, by our counselors, so we feel they're getting what the need," said Sara Sparkman of the Tazewell County Health Department.
Thanks to an extention granted by the White House last week, individuals only need to begin the process of enrolling to avoid having to pay a penalty.
You have until April 15th to complete it for insurance effective may first.
