PONTIAC, Ill. – Attorneys for a man accused of killing a Pontiac Police officer and his K9 in a drunk driving crash want the trial moved out of Livingston County.

Jason Collins, 33, is charged with Aggravated DUI and Reckless Homicide.

Police say Collins lost control of his truck and hit Officer Casey Kohlmeier's marked car in a turnaround on Interstate-55 in October.

On Tuesday, a judge set a hearing for July 15 to consider a location change.

Collins remains in the Livingston County Jail on $1 million bond.

Officer Kohlmeier’s family has also filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Collins seeking damages in excess of $50,000.
