PEORIA, Ill.-- In Central Illinois, the Kentucky Derby is more than just a race to bet on.. It’s a chance to raise money for those who need it.

More than one hundred guests gathered at WeaverRidge Golf Club on Saturday for an old-fashioned Kentucky Derby Party.

The event included live music... A silent auction and a big screen view of the race.

All proceeds benefit the Central Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.

Derby Party Committee members say this soiree is one of a kind.

Committee Member Brian Gruber said, “There is no other derby related event to benefit a non-for-profit organization in the area so I'm really hopeful that this will become a premier event in the future."

The Committee expects the event will raise about $30,000.
