PEORIA, Ill -- District 150 teachers have a new leader.

Scott Donahue has been elected the new President for the Peoria Federation of Teachers Union.

Donahue is a coach and has taught at Von Steuben Middle School for 17 years.

He says next year the union will enter into contract talks again with the district. He adds he is excited and ready to represent the more than 1,100 teachers of District 150.

"I'm hopeful that under my leadership, that the administration is open to always allowing the teachers a voice because I think that when you're in the trenches you know what goes on and what is important to benefit student achievement," said Donahue.

Next year Donahue will give up coaching and only teach half-days to allow time for his union duties.

Donahue says current Union president Bob Darling decided not to seek re-election because it is a two year term and he only has one more year left to teach.
