PEORIA, Ill. -- The extreme temperatures may be a factor in a recent influx of women and children at a local homeless shelter.

The Dream Center of Peoria offers beds, hot meals, showers and laundry facilities to homeless single mothers and their children.

This past weekend, the shelter had 45 residents, more than 20 of them were under the age of 6.

A Dream Center official said the shelter is in need of basic supplies to help the families and encourages anyone who can donate to do so. Just log on to www.dreamcenterpeoria.org to make a donation.
