JOLIET, Ill. -- Drew Peterson was sentenced to 38 years in prison Thursday for the 2004 murder of his third wife Kathleen Savio.
The Chicago Tribune reported that Peterson screamed out in court "I did not kill Kathleen!" during an appeal to the judge shortly before his sentencing.
He said that he was the victim of an unjust police investigation. Peterson said that police lost evidence that would have proven his innocense. He also accused officers of falsifying reports.
Peterson faced 60 years in jail, but Judge Edward Burmila reduced the sentence due to Peterson's military service and work as a police officer.
