An East Peoria man is in custody after police say he drove a stolen vehicle off a cliff in Peoria Heights Sunday.

East Peoria police say 18 year-old Andrew Carson was wanted for questioning after he allegedly sexually assaulted a minor in East Peoria Saturday night.

When police arrived on the scene, witnesses said Carson had fled in a stolen car after making comments that led them to believe he may commit suicide.

East Peoria police issued a radio alert to other departments.

Carson was spotted by a Peoria Heights patrolman on the 4700 block of North Grandview Drive.

"Ultimately, Mr. Carson drove his car off the roadway at approximately a 300 foot embankment sustaining multiple injuries," said Detective Sgt. Shannon Swearingen of the East Peoria Police Department.

Carson was treated for non-life threatening injuries at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

He was arrested upon his release Monday afternoon.

Carson faces charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor, aggravated criminal sexual assault of a minor, and motor vehicle theft.

He's scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
