EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- East Peoria city officials bridged the economic development gap in the downtown business district on Monday.
East Peoria Mayor Dave Mingus, city council members and other local leaders officially opened the new Altorfer Lane Bridge connecting Camp and Washington Streets.
The $2 million bridge project which began in January is designed to enhance traffic flow into the revitalized downtown.
The bridge is named Spinder Drive in honor of former East Peoria Mayor James Spinder.
"I'm just thrilled beyond words, in fact I wanted to say you know sometimes mere words do not adequately express what you feel but I'm just so grateful to them, the council, the mayor and chamber of commerce for doing this," said Spinder's widow Evalyn.
The bridge project also includes new traffic signals at the Camp Street intersection.
