EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- The Mayor of East Peoria says the new Aldi in the Levee District is just another example of how the new downtown is an economic boon for the city.

It was not long ago the levee district was just concrete and dirt.

Mayor Mingus said now the area is providing economic opportunity to the region.

"It was a tremendous challenge, but because of the efforts of councils prior, councils current and wonderful partnerships we've not turned this into something our citizens are very proud of," said East Peoria Mayor Dave Mingus.

Mayor Mingus said, while he cannot give specifics yet, more new development in the district is expected in the near future.
