EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- East Peoria is gearing up for what city officials hope will be another successful holiday season.

The Festival of Lights Parade and FOLEPI's Winter Wonderland are right around the corner.

Like last year, the parade will take place a week before Thanksgiving, on Saturday the 23rd at 5:45 p.m.

The parade will kick-off at the FOLEPI building on East Washington Street and end on Springfield Road.

Organizers said they have saved thousands of dollars by switching to LED lights along with quieter generators.

"They are so much more energy efficient. So it is not that we are spending less money on the festival, it is that we are saving money in the energy efficiency of all of our our displays now. A couple of years ago, we were spending $80,000 on electricity for Winter Wonderland. We are anticipating this year it will be about $5,000," said East Peoria Public Relations Coordinator, Jill Peterson.

FOLEPI's Winter Wonderland will open at 5 o'clock on Thanksgiving night with a new route through Fondulac Park.

The event costs $10 per vehicle.
