PEORIA, Ill. -- The Sierra Club has filed an appeal of the Illinois Polution Control Board's decision to give Dynergy Corporation a variance on pollution requirements.
The Pollution control board gave Dynergy five additional years, until 2020, to meet state pollution control standards.
Dynergy, a Texas-based energy company, bought five coal-fired power plants from Ameren early last month.
That sale included the Edwards power plant in Bartonville and the Duck Creek plant in Canton.
Ameren and Dynergy had argued that the cost of plant upgrades would lead it to shut down.
