NORMAL Ill -- It's that time of the year, as graduations across Central Illinois are getting underway.
More than 3,000 graduates from Illinois State are moving on with their diplomas, but they aren't the only ones moving on.
Friday evening, President Al Bowman congratulated a group of nursing graduates for the last time as the university's President.
Bowman announced last December that he would step down as president due to health concerns.
He served the university for 35 years and 10 years as president.
Bowman will officially retire May 15th but says he won't be going too far.
"I've got mixed feelings because commencement is one of those things I look forward to all year long," said Bowman. "I'm sad to not lead the ceremony again, but I'm still going to be part of the university's community. I'll be at the commencement next year."
Bowman added that he still plans to teach at ISU during the spring and fall, and be sure to keep an eye out for him at different sporting events.
