BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- A former congressional candidate from Bloomington, whose appointment to the Illinois Department of Public Health was deemed controversial by many, has stepped down.
Dr. David Gill had been serving as Assistant Director for the Department of Public Health for 10 months.
He was offered the position by Governor Quinn after he dropped out of the congressional race last year.
Some politicians, including State Senator Darin LaHood, said Gill may have been offered the position as a favor for dropping out.
A health department spokeswoman said Gill is going back to the private sector.
