DETROIT, Mich. -- General Motors is recalling nearly 250,000 SUVS in several states -- including Illinois -- due to a fire risk.
According to documents posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website, the vehicles could have a short circuit in the power window and lock controls in the driver's door that can result in a fire.
The recall covers 2006 and 2007 models of the Chevy Trailblazer, Buick Rainier, GMC Envoy, SAAB 9-7X, and Isuzu Ascender, originally sold or now registered in the following states:
* Connecticut
* Delaware
* Illinois
* Indiana
* Iowa
* Maine
* Maryland
* Massachusetts
* Michigan
* Minnesota
* Missouri
* New Hampshire
* New Jersey
* New York
* Ohio
* Pennsylvania
* Rhode Island
* Vermont
* West Virginia
* Wisconsin
* Washington, D.C.
GM says salty water from road salt can cause corrosion leading to the short circuit.
