GALESBURG, Ill. -- A house fire in Galesburg killed one man on Sunday afternoon.

The Galesburg Fire and Police Departments responded to 533 Burgland Avenue on a reported house fire at approximately 4:30 p.m.

Officers arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the interior of the residence.

Firefighters entered the home to find a man in the kitchen. The man, 58-year-old Stanley Wayne Henry was transported to Cottage Hospital. Henry was pronounced dead at 5:03 p.m.

Henry was the only occupant of the house at the time of the fire. When officers and firefighters first arrived they did not hear or see working smoke detectors.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Nothing at the scene led investigators to believe the fire was of suspicious origin.
