HANNA CITY, Ill. -- Early spring hopefuls were urging on Gertie the groundhog for some good news Sunday morning.

Unfortunately, Gertie saw her shadow which means six more weeks of winter for all of us.

Historically Gertie has been right about two thirds of the time.

That's about twice as accurate as Punxsutawney Phil.

Washington Mayor Gary Manier was honorary Wildlife Prairie Park mayor of the day, and musician Barry Cloyd sung "Wake up Gertie" songs along with the crowd.

Understandably, the news isn't popular.

"Not pleased. It's cold enough. I think we need spring."

"Well I liked it better last year when she said it was going to be an early spring," said Ken Fletcher. "We've had enough of this snow and cold weather. I hope it ends pretty soon."

Gertie also predicted the Denver Broncos will win the Super Bowl.
