PEORIA, Ill. -- Republican Candidate for Illinois Governor, Bruce Rauner, made a stop in downtown Peoria with his new running mate Wednesday afternoon.
The Chicago businessman held a press conference at Haddad's Restaurant, showing off his Lieutenant Governor candidate, Evelyn Sanguinetti.
Rauner said with her partnership, they will be able to get things like pension reform done in Springfield.
"What we are recommending is that we freeze the pension," said Rauner. "Over time we will pay the accrued benefits that are in the system out to the honest government workers. Also, going forward, we will move everyone into a defined contribution plan. It would be more of a 401-K style just like most voters in Illinois have."
Rauner will face Senator Kirk Dillard, State Treasurer Dan Rutherford, and State Senator Bill Brady in the primary election March 18th of next year.
So far, only one Democratic candidate, Tio Hardiman, has come forward to face Governor Quinn in the primary.
