EAST PEORIA, Ill -- Friends and family of Midstate College students gathered today to celebrate a milestone.
More than 150 students graduated this morning with the tools they need to start a career.
The ceremony focused on achievements and the future, highlighting several students for academic excellence.
Whether the grads received bachelors or associates degrees, the keynote speaker-- Illinois Senator Dave Koehler-- says they are leaving college with more than just a diploma.
"A person with a degree is less likely to be unemployed and on average will make 135 dollars a week more thank a high school graduate," said State Sen. Dave Koehler, (D) 46th Dist. "But really the most important thing about your degree today is that you've really demonstrated your ability to learn how to learn."
This is Midstate College's 125th year providing education in the Central Illinois area.
