EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- A new library is now open in East Peoria's Levee District.

The new Fondulac District Library debuted its new building today.

The project was funded by a 7 million dollar referendum approved in 2009.

It has more room for seating, additional computers and an expanded collection of books.

The library's director says the location of the new facility could play a big role in attracting more visitors.

"I can't tell you how many times we've heard already today, "oh this is great, I'll just park at Target and just walk across the street." You know there's great shops around here, I think it's a really nice location for us and for the community," said Fondulac District library director Amy Falasz-Peterson.

The grand opening included book signings, balloon art and allowed visitors to sign up for library cards.

Starting Sunday, the library will be open during its regular hours, on Sunday's, that's 1 to 5 pm.
