WASHINGTON, Ill. -- One Washington family whose duplex was destroyed in the tornado last year will soon become homeowners.
Peoria area Habitat For Humanity has teamed up with Bosch Tools to rebuild a home for Kelly Stephen.
Stephen leased a duplex in Washington prior to the tornado.
Bosch Tools is donating $75,000 towards tornado recovery.
The company is also donating $10,000 worth of tools.
Since the disaster habitat's involvement has been limited to repairs for tornado victims.
“We're learning that habitat can be a vital part of the recovery process,” said Lea Anne Schmidgall from Habitat for Humanity. “So we're coming in right now and trying to help people, with windows, siding. But we also want to build a new home to help a family that has been displaced.”
''It's something to hope for,” said Stephen. “Now we know our plan. We didn't know what we were gonna do. Now we know what we're gonna do. We feel so much better.”
Kelly Stephen and her family temporarily live in Goodfield.
She's not sure how long it will take before her home is built.
