METAMORA, Ill. -- Senator Darin LaHood has a new plaque to hang in his office.
LaHood got an award from Snyder Village on Thursday for acknowledging the needs of senior citizens.
Snyder Village is a retirement and assisted living community for the elderly in Metamora. LaHood toured the retirement home and talked to residents about their care.
He says providing substantial care for the aging population is an issue for non-profit organizations when funding from the government isn't reliable.
"The number one issue is making sure that there is some certainty with Snyder and other health care facilities and other nursing homes throughout my district and making sure that they know that they are going to get the money that is owed to them from the state," LaHood said.
Snyder Village serves nearly 350 residents and is growing. The facility hopes to expand the assisted-living unit and build more apartments and homes for future residents.
