PEORIA, Ill. -- The search for a missing Peoria woman abducted by her estranged husband may be over.
Tuesday morning Peoria Police found Laongdao Phangthong’s car in a parking deck at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. The body of a woman believed to be Phangthong was found inside.
At this hour, her estranged husband is barricaded inside his home in the 700 block of Monroe Street and Peoria Police have deployed the SWAT team to respond.
The scene is tense in the north valley neighborhood. Peoria Police have blocked off the 600 and 700 blocks of Monroe and Perry streets as hostage negotiators try to talk with Phouvone Sophanavon, 45.
Police said he has been held up inside the house at 703 Monroe Street all day.
Peoria Police Chief Steve Settingsgaard said Sophanavon is a suspect in the death of his estranged wife, Laongdao Phangthong.
SWAT teams are inside the house where Sophanavon is holed up. Police have set up a command post a block away from the house at Green and Perry.
The police chief said he is not sure how long this will go on, but they are working toward a peaceful resolution.
