IDOT reopens roads; warns conditions remain hazardous

CENTRAL ILLINOIS -- The Illinois Department of Transportation has reopened the following roads:

- IL 17 from Lacon city limits to I-39 in Marshall County
- IL 98 from I-155 to IL 29 in Tazewell County
- IL 9 from east of Mackinaw to IL 122

IDOT said crews will work through the night and as long as is necessary to clear the roads but driving will remain hazardous Monday evening as many state routes are still snow and/or ice covered.

The extremely low wind chills will make getting stranded a potentially dangerous situation. Fill up your gas tank, dress for the weather, and be sure to have an emergency kit in your vehicle if you choose to drive Monday night.

Also, be aware that black ice is possible. Black ice forms on roads that appear clear and the unseen ice can be treacherous. If you must travel, take it slow when approaching intersections, off-ramps, bridges, and shady areas. All of these locations are prone to black ice.
