Illinois Senate looking at car smoking bill

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Smoking in your car could get a bit more complicated if a bill is passed.

The Illinois Senate is considering a bill that would make it illegal to smoke in a car if a child is present.

Fines could go up to $100.

The idea is to prevent children from being exposed to smoke. Opponents of the bill say the next step may be to ban smoking in homes.

The bill does stipulate that police will not be able to pull over someone for only this offense.
