CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) announced Thursday that Illinois' February unemployment rate was 9.5 percent.

The IDES also said that the state created 12,400 jobs in February.

Officials say that the increase in unemployment is due to people reentering the workforce.

In February 2012, the number of unemployed individuals climbed by 34,000.

According to the IDES, there are nearly 630,000 unemployed individuals in the state.
