PEORIA, Ill. -- Protecting our planet was the theme at Peoria Zoo's Party for the Planet.

Adults and children learned several simple ways to make Earth a better place.

Everything from recycling and reusing, hanging your clothes to dry instead of using the dryer, making homemade bird feeders and using environmentally friendly products.

"They're excited to learn why what we're making can help the Earth as opposed to various other things," said Peoria Children's librarian Amanda Doyle. "And they enjoy planting grass seeds, and knowing when it grows they can plant it in their yards, and that's something that can help the earth."

The goal of the event was not only to teach the children about ways they can help the planet, but show them there are ways to incorporate those actions into their everyday life.
