IRVING, TX -- Bloomington's Josh Brent was released from a Texas jail Sunday on a half-million dollars bond.
The former Central Catholic and University of Illinois standout, who plays for the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, is charged with intoxication manslaughter, a second-degree felony punishable by 2 to 4 years in prison.
Police say Brent was driving at a high rate of speed at about 2:30 Saturday morning in Irving, Texas, when the vehicle flipped and slid about 900 feet before catching fire.
Killed in the wreck was Jerry Brown, Jr., a teammate of Brent's who was a passenger. Brown, who is from St. Louis, also played with Brent at the University of Illinois.
Brent had a previous arrest for DUI in 2009 while at the U of I.
