NORMAL, Ill. -- The Normal Police Department was on a mission to make some holiday dreams come true.

More than 40 kids shopped with a cop Sunday at Target.

The annual "Shop with a Cop" event teams up Normal and ISU police officers with area kids in need.

The children were able to spend $100 dollars toward their wish list.

Police officers said the event is a good way to make positive connections with kids at a young age.

"These kind of things are what I look forward to all year long," said Greg Leipold of the Normal Police Department. "They get to see us in a different light. We are spending money on them and they get to see us being positive."

Donations from the public and the local police union funded the event.

Afterward, the officers and kids joined together for pizza.
