TREMONT, Ill. -- Today was the last day of the Tremont Turkey Festival. It was packed with people playing games and eating a lot of turkey.
Considering the township’s size of 2,100 people, the turnout was significantly greater.
“I would say at least 50,000 people are here in the community to celebrate the turkey festival,” said Jill Barr from the Tremont Betterment Association.
Barr also said the proceeds from the festival go back into the community to help fund non-profit organizations in the village.
The festival had more than 1,000 pounds of turkey and expects to sell out before it ends around 6 p.m.
Barr says in the event there is still turkey left over, it is sold in bulk. If it’s not sold, it goes to the local food pantry.
