PEORIA, Ill. -- Dozens of family, friends and volunteers came together Saturday to grant a wish for one local boy.

12-year-old Elias suffers from congenital heart disease and other life-threatening medical conditions.

His father says he was diagnosed as an infant. Doctors told them, if Elias survived he would most likely need a heart and lung transplant.

Since then, Elias has continued to beat the odds.

Today the Make-A-Wish foundation, along with Kretschmar Deli Meats and Kirby Foods, granted Elias' wish for a game room but the gift is much more than just that.

"It's a humbling experience to have everyone rally behind Elias and I think what I've learned in this process with Make-a-Wish is that their goal is, it's through wish granting, but it's making a child feel special," said Elias' father, Matthew Bramlet.

Make-a-Wish will grant 700 wishes this year in Illinois alone. Nationally, one wish is granted every 43 minutes.
