PEKIN, Ill. -- Pekin's sweetest landmark is for sale.

Many people fear what that means for their favorite little candy shop.

Maurie's Fine Candies was put on the market by it's current owner this week.

The small shop, which was established in 1941, specializes in candy, greeting cards, and books.

Pekin resident, Scot Johannes, has owned the store for the last four years.

He said his medical career has forced him to give up the shop for a reasonable price.

"Part of me will really have a hard time just walking away and knowing that I don't own it anymore," said Johannes. "This has been fun but it is just something that I have to do."

"Downtown Pekin is beautiful," said Pekin native, Kim Guthrie. "I think it's coming back, and we need Maurie's to stay. It's been here since I was in high school. It's good stuff. "

The building and business are priced together at $175,000.

Johannes said he has already received several offers.

He will pick the best person to carry on the business.
