PEORIA, Ill. -- Central Illinois organizations are being awarded thousands of dollars to help fight hunger.

The Rotary Club of Peoria Downtown awarded six non-profit groups each a $1,000 check.

The money will support programs to help eliminate hunger in the Peoria area.

Midwest Food Bank in Peoria can provide 2,000 meals for families thanks to the grant.

"It is tremendously helpful," said Midwest Food Bank Grants Coordinator, Amy Herring. "What we see from our pantries is that there is never enough. Any funds that can come in and create the additional resources, we are always grateful for."

Other recipients include Center for Prevention of Abuse, Crittenton Centers, Children's Home Association of Illinois, Westmark Food Pantry, and Westminster Infant Care Center.
