PEORIA, Ill. -- It was a typical day for receptionist Wendy Lewis as she answered calls at Samaritan Family Medical Services in Peoria.
But one simple gesture on this Valentine's Day meant more than ever before.
"I was very surprised today from my husband," said Lewis. "This June we will be married 20 years. He was diagnosed last year with a terminal illness. Everyday we are just taking as a gift."
Friday's "gift" was a bouquet of flowers delivered in-person to Lewis.
She said flowers are not her husbands typical Valentine's Day gift, so she was extra surprised.
"It's just a good day for both of us to have together," said Lewis. "We can just cherish that we have been together for so many years.
While Lewis's husband continues to battle cancer, she believes they will be Valentines for many more years to come.
"Thank you very much," said Lewis. "I appreciate it, and I love you."
